With the breathtaking grand deck above, this lower level could easily be overlooked—but it stands proudly as a masterpiece in its own right. Designed as an extension of the upper structure, the lower deck carries forward the same refined details, premium materials, and thoughtful craftsmanship that define the entire project.
Overhead, the space is sheltered by the tongue-and-groove soffit installed beneath the upper deck, complete with recessed pot lights that create a warm, ambient glow. Thanks to the Trex RainEscape system above, this entire area remains dry and protected, transforming what would typically be wasted space into a fully livable outdoor retreat.
Set between concrete retaining walls, the deck sits in a natural “pit,” forming a beautifully enclosed and intimate environment. This surrounding structure creates a sense of calm and privacy, making the space feel cozy and grounded. The lighting in the soffit above enhances this atmosphere even further, especially in the evening, when the entire area comes alive with a soft, inviting warmth.
The deck surface is finished in Eva-Last’s premium Apex Plus composite in Himalayan Cedar, matching the upper deck and maintaining continuity throughout the project. We reinforced the structure to support a hot tub and built a custom staircase around it, ensuring both safety and seamless flow within the space.
Cedar privacy walls add warmth and character, while a staircase leads out of the sunken area, providing an easy transition from this tucked-away retreat. Though more intimate than the deck above, this lower level is a work of art in its own right—a protected haven designed for relaxation, comfort, and year-round enjoyment.
It is a space to unwind, to escape the elements, and to enjoy the serenity of a private outdoor sanctuary. Cozy, refined, and beautifully executed, this lower deck completes the Dave & Riki project in the most meaningful way.
