This is, without question, the most grand and magnificent project YYC Builders has completed to date—a true masterpiece and a defining milestone for our company. We are deeply honoured to have been entrusted with this build and to have brought such an extraordinary vision to life. This project represents the very best of our craftsmanship, creativity, and technical ability, and stands as a showcase of what YYC Builders is capable of delivering at the highest level.
David came to us with an initial design concept, and together we transformed that vision into reality—beginning with detailed 3D renderings that allowed the entire space to be imagined before a single board was laid. What followed is a deck that truly has everything.
The surface is built with premium composite decking from Eva-Last’s Apex Plus line in the colour Himalayan Cedar. The design features a striking octagonal layout, paired with an extraordinary grand staircase that incorporates a custom inlay pattern within the deck boards themselves. The staircase is illuminated by 20 riser lights, creating a dramatic and inviting glow that makes this feature come alive day and night.
The octagon is the heart of the project—an architectural focal point that is both rare and technically demanding, requiring an exceptional level of precision and skill. This is a walk-out deck, constructed with Trex RainEscape, an under-deck drainage system that keeps the space below completely dry. This allowed us to create a fully finished, livable area beneath the deck, complete with Hemlock tongue-and-groove soffit and recessed pot lights set on dimmers to establish the perfect ambiance.
A custom-manufactured aluminum spiral staircase provides a stunning and functional connection between levels. Both the staircase and the railing were custom painted to the clients’ chosen colour. The railing system itself is primarily topless glass, using 10mm thick panels to deliver uninterrupted, panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
Situated on an acreage in Springbank, this property boasts breathtaking scenery and expansive open space. Surrounding the octagon specifically, we installed 5-foot-tall, aluminum-framed clear glass wind panels. With the high winds common in this area, these panels create a protected, comfortable gathering space while preserving the incredible views.
The structure is finished with SmartBoard-wrapped support posts and beams, detailed with elegant trim and painted white to complement the home’s existing exterior. The project began with the demolition and removal of an aging vinyl deck and was completed in approximately one month.
With a budget range of $90,000–$110,000, this build reflects a premium investment in quality, longevity, and design. The Eva-Last Apex Plus composite offers exceptional durability, refined aesthetics, and a superior finished look. The in-lite lighting system throughout the stairs and deck surface brings the entire structure to life after dark, transforming it into a glowing centerpiece.
