Jonny’s project stands out as one of the most ambitious and rewarding undertakings for YYC Builders in 2024, and we take immense pride in the outcome. This large-scale endeavor allowed us to manage multiple aspects and trades, showcasing our collaborative spirit alongside Luke’s design and build landscaping team. The project began with the demolition and removal of an existing deck that had become extremely rotted and posed safety risks. Once the old deck was safely removed, we tackled the next crucial step: removing a large tree. We brought in a professional arborist (Spruce it up garden centre) to ensure this was done safely and efficiently. Following the tree removal, we engaged a gas fitting company to run a gas line from the house to a newly installed gas fire table, which is situated on a stunning stone patio created by Luke and his team. This addition not only enhances the outdoor experience but also creates a focal point for gatherings. The deck itself is designed with numerous impressive features. We constructed a dedicated hot tub pad and built an upper deck around it, complete with access panels for maintenance. The upper deck also includes an access hatch on the side skirt, allowing for easy access. We chose stained cedar railing with aluminum pickets, providing a classic yet modern look. Additionally, we replaced the existing stucco privacy wall on the upper deck with a stained cedar privacy wall, enhancing both aesthetics and functionality. To further accommodate the new design, we hired YYC Mechanical to relocate the air conditioning unit, which was repositioned to fit seamlessly into the overall layout. Interestingly, the owner of YYC Mechanical is Jared’s brother, making it a fun collaboration for our teams. The lower deck was built to ground level, stretching from one side of the property line to the other, providing a generous surface area for relaxation and entertainment. We incorporated lighting on the rises of the stair sets and various access points, adding both safety and ambiance. Additionally, we rebuilt and refinished a small retaining wall alongside the lower deck, finished with composite materials. Lights were also installed to cast a gentle glow on the aspen trees in the planter, creating a magical evening atmosphere. One of the standout features of this project is the custom-designed stained pergola, which was both a fun and unique element to construct. It is elegantly mounted to both the upper and lower decks, providing shade and character. Luke’s team also contributed beautifully with the stone patio work and stone retaining wall, ensuring that all elements blend together harmoniously. In the end, Jonny’s project is not just a construction project; it is a masterpiece that reflects our dedication to quality, creativity, and collaboration. We are proud to showcase this stunning transformation on our website as one of our favorite projects to date.
