Our client had an existing deck that extended 8ft away from the house. They wished to add additional deck space to their smaller backyard, so we planned to extend the existing deck from 8ft to 10ft. By reusing the existing support posts, we were able to drop the beam height to allow for the joists to cantilever, which successfully extended the deck by 2ft.
For the finish, our client chose to go with premium line composite/PVC and selected Azek/Timbertech Weathered Teak. The results are amazing!
Process: Starting with the initial consultation, we provided a quote for the project, along with a drawing set for approval. Once approved, we had a follow up meeting to go over the fine details and select the composite. We then acquired building permits from the City of Calgary and were ready to proceed with the build. The build began with the demolition and removal of the existing deck, followed by replacing the ledger board and cutting down the stucco support pillars. Next, we set the beam height and framed the deck with 2×10 treated joists. This deck features a large 15 rise stair set that we began to work on next using 16ft 2″x12″. After all the wood work was completed, we finished it off with the composite decking. The way we finish stair sets is tedious work as there is a ton of fine detail, but the end results are stunning. We hope you enjoy the photos!
