This build was in a smaller backyard for an inner city infill home. Our clients originally had a small grass area in the yard that was a bit of a pain to maintain. Their goal was to go maintenance free for the entire backyard and add more space for entertaining. To achieve this build we had to dig down the entire area 10” to allow space for the deck to sit at the same level as the pre existing concrete pad and walkway. Digging down 10” here is necessary to ensure the deck framing isn’t sitting in dirt that would hold moisture against the framing and result in early rotting of the materials. Besides removing all the grass and dirt this build was relatively straightforward. A standard 12’x16’ composite deck finished with Timbertech’s Coconut Husk. There was a bit of a challenge for the team to follow the height of the existing cement as it was not level but the goal was to have the deck and the cement level with each other and we made it happen!
