Another proud collaboration with Spruce It Up Garden Centre. This project was challenging as we had to squeeze this large 24’x12’ PVC deck between the house and the garage while keeping the deck height below the mandoor into the garage. We started by bringing our mini skid steer in to remove a few yards of dirt/landscaping so that we could sink the deck into the ground. This alone was a challenge due to the tight space to work in but once completed we proceeded to build the framing for the deck. When bringing a deck so close to the ground we use a technique that involves hanging the joists on the support beams rather than running the joists on top of the beam. This helps to prevent sinking the beam into the ground where it would be prone to premature rotting but given the obstacles against the house and garage such as the AC unit and the utility feeds we had to run a few more cement piles than typical. After getting around things that were in the way and finding solutions to meet our clients needs the framing was done and we proceeded to finishing the deck with Premium Line PVC decking by Timbertech/Azek using a great color combo of Dark Hickory for the border and trim and Coastline for the main surface. We also set up 10 LED lights on the surface and 10 lights in the rises and access points to the deck. Lastly we built 108ft of Pressure Treated wood fence with 4 gates for her and her neighbor. Spruce it up came in afterwards to landscaping in what was left of the yard (most of the backyard was a deck by the time we finished) At YYC Builders we enjoy any challenge and are always happy to meet a clients unique needs to deliver products they can enjoy the way they envision for many many years!
